The candidate must have the needed qualifications to lead us through continued growth with a variety of music to entertain and enrich our audiences and members. We will continue our normal season of concerts with guest conductors until a suitable candidate is found.
The Artistic Director is responsible for overseeing all concert preparation including seasonal themes, music selection, rehearsals and performances. This individual recognizes that the concert is not the final destination i.e., the learning that happens in rehearsal is just as important (or more important) than the final performance. The ideal candidate will have proven written, verbal and musical communication skills.
Northwest Choral Society believes music transforms our lives, develops creativity and musical expression, and unites all people into a community. We draw upon singers from the Greater Chicago area with the purpose of performing a diverse repertoire of the highest caliber for the joy, enrichment, and education of our membership and our audiences.
Northwest Choral Society was formed in 1965 as a community-based, Illinois nonprofit organization. We are a medium-size, mixed chorus (approx. 50 voices), providing an exciting and challenging opportunity for a talented Artistic Director to work with a close family of friendly and supportive singers each week. Throughout the season, a variety of sacred, secular, classical and popular music is prepared and performed, and this repertoire has become a hallmark of the group.
Our December concert of festive holiday music delights audiences year after year. In the spring, we typically perform one or more larger Classical works accompanied by an ensemble of the Chicago area’s finest professional instrumentalists and vocal soloists. Our season is rounded out with an exciting concert of secular and/or popular selections, often with guest artists.
